There are zillions of books written on the “Power of now” or “How to live in the moment ” but still we don’t pay heed to what it can bring us. We are so busy, that at times we don’t even recall what is making us so busy actually. But if you really wish to encounter beauty in every second then you must learn to live in the moment and check out for yourself what have you been missing on life. Before you lose the sight of the things that matters you the most.
Let’s dive into ways to live in the moment, for the moment. And, reconnect with our self and others.
6 Ways to Live in the Moment
1 .Focus On What You’re Doing & Live In The Moment
“Where focus goes, energy flows,” says Tony Robbins, Leadership Coach.
The point is to do one thing at one time not to multi-task. When you’re eating just eat, when you’re walking, just walk. Let me elaborate more on this.
Let’s say you’re having your meal at that moment, focus on every single bite you take and savor your meal. Use your senses while eating. Look at the meal, the color, touch with hands than a spoon, smell the fragrance and savor the taste that’s how we are supposed to eat our meal to get it properly digested. Live in the moment is what you need to get things done in richest manner.
Let me put this way, when you are taking stairs just see the steps you are taking in don’t think what you’re going to say or behave or anything for that matter. I will take time but it will come. But once you’ll get to live for the moment and live in the moment you’ll enjoy the true state of bliss.
At time mindless thinking is very taxing on our mind, it cripples our productivity and efficiency.
2. Make Time to Think & Live In the Moment
The other great way to live in the moment is to “Make time to think” It’s opposite to what I said but try to get my point. There is a world of difference between mindless thinking and mindfulness thinking.
I am not talking about praying in silence or meditating. All you need to do is to sit comfortably with your peace of mind and just think with your eyes closed in deep reflection. Great leaders do that every day. sitting silently. still. with their eyes closed. Thinking just thinking, Robin Sharma, The Greatness Guide.
At times people get so busy that they don’t know what they are so busy doing. But what if they are busy doing the wrong things. Peter Drucker, the management expert, said it so well:
“There is nothing so useless as doing efficiently that which should not be done at all.”
Clarity precedes success. And the ability to live in the moment mentioned in The Greatness Guide by Robin Sharma.
3. Find What Gives You “Peace”
In today’s day and age, there is a lot that is happening around in the name and game of life. And most part of it is away from peace and sense of satisfaction. We live in the age of un-innocence, there is cut-throat competition, dreams, ambitions, goals that are driving us with “NO” breaks. We don’t know where to stop and unwind ourselves. Our biggest problem, we know we want something, we are working for it and has taken ourselves to some la la land which is full of nonsense that now we’re looking for ways and means to unwind it and unable to figure out the how part. We are so disconnected from our real self that we don’t even know what is going to give us peace. We do know deep down in our mind but who is patient enough to sit back and reflect on that part.
Connect yourself and find what gives you “Peace”. We all wired differently and which is why there is no one solution for all of us. We have to figure what works for us and get in terms with our real selves.
4. Mindfulness Meditation to Live in The Moment
“As you walk and eat and travel, be where you are otherwise you will miss most of your life.”
Mindfulness meditation is nothing but a state of mind where we pay attention to the self without any distractions. In today’s life where people have forgotten their self and are constantly running for making their life more meaningful, content, richer. In doing so, they have forgotten to their real nature. Sure your life is busy, you need to make money, you have responsibilities and no time. As a consequence, we face misery, depression, diseases, stress, and what not.
To make upfor the loss, we need to meditate to give the desired break our mind, body, and soul needs. But we are so busy and especially for meditation which to most of us is the most boring thing in the world. In ancient times, people use to do meditation for enlightenment. But in today’s time, we need it to save our self from the constant beating depression and ailments that come as a package. We must give ourselves the much-needed break from the mundane life and should do meditation because; it gives you the opportunity to do nothing at that moment.
In simple words, Mindfulness meditation is nothing but paying attention in the present moment and activity. It can be done while sitting idle, walking, doing daily chores like cooking, writing, repairing, bathing etc. Learn 4 Steps to Mindfulness Meditation.
Being in the meditative state is one of the best ways to live in the moment and reap the benefits it tags along.
5. Care to Appreciate
The main reason behind employees leaves their organization is not because they were not being paid enough; they do because they were not given due appreciation. Let me put this way, employees don’t change their organization they change their bosses.
Use these two magical words, “Thank You” and notice a world of difference in your life and other’s behavior towards you. Living in the moment makes you think about the people in life who need to be cherished, appreciated and told that their support has been helpful. Use your present and make it blissful. It’s easy and cost-free but it will make a world of difference.
Live for the moment and do what it spurs in your soul. Tell someone how much their presence matters, how much their support is valuable, and you are truly grateful for it. It comes easy and natural when you are connected with yourself rather than clouding yourself into mindless thoughts.
Never miss an opportunity to appreciate someone for the good they have done. Live in the moment and enjoy life in the most simple and subtle way.
6. Be In The Flow of Life & Live in The Moment
Psychologists suggest the purest way of living in the moment, is the state of “Total absorption”. They term it flow, when one get lost in doing the activity that they lose track of everything that is happening around. Some of you might think its contradictory to what I am referring up till now. But the depth of absorption is so potent that distractions cannot penetrate. We also call them recreational activities. For example, kids when they play they lose track of time and space just like that we got few things that can make us lose track of time and space around us which can unveil the untapped zones where we can find peace.
Let me put it this way. Apart from writing and reading which is what I do in most of my time, I love astrology. I love to watch anything to everything related to Vedic concepts of astrology. And for me, it is the most divine thing on the planet. I can do it for hours without breaks. Knowing the unknown is what the turns me on for it. Just like that, it could be gaming, biking, hiking, driving or everything that comes in between. You just have to figure out what make you lose track of time. Do that in your free time and learn to be more present or live in the moment.
These are the best and the easiest ways to tap into the present moment and live your life to the fullest.
I am thankful to all my readers who are reading this post. This is for you all, just so you know, this post is very special to my heart and I decided to come up this post as I have been meeting and talking to people who are so much accustomed to their work and goals in life that they hardly think about themselves. There is no better way to get through them than this post.
Take a break and simply do nothing, they call in Italian, La Dolce Far Niente,” which means- the sweetness of doing nothing.
